microsoft — forward-deployed customer engineering
oct 2018 – oct 2022
role
V.0.5.0
senior azure fasttrack engineer
microsoft
at microsoft i did forward-deployed customer engineering on azure fasttrack — sitting between enterprise customers, field engineering, and azure product teams. the job was to take complex adoption problems from discovery through architecture, proof-of-concept, and production readiness — then feed what we learned back into the platform.
scope
- engagement model
- customer-facing delivery: requirements discovery → architecture → deployment planning → technical validation → implementation guidance → production readiness
- stakeholders
- enterprise customers, field/customer engineering, azure product teams — translating real implementation friction into actionable platform feedback
- complex delivery
- multi-stakeholder hpc initiatives supporting genomics research across cloud, cross-platform, and multi-cloud environments
- outcome bar
- assigned customer workloads were expected to land in production azure — not stop at slideware or abandoned pocs
selected outcomes
- —led design and deployment engagements that moved enterprise customers from azure onboarding through production adoption
- —directed proof-of-concept environments so customers could validate architectures and workloads before cutting over
- —acted as liaison between field engineering and azure product — turning customer constraints into clearer platform signals
- —delivered hpc programs for genomics research where architecture, performance, and operational reality had to hold together
- —consistently migrated assigned customer workloads through to production azure adoption
highlights
- —forward-deployed pattern: own the path from customer intent to a running production architecture
- —poc discipline — validate early, fail cheaply, then harden for production
- —hybrid and enterprise architecture guidance under real customer constraints
- —production readiness as a first-class deliverable, not a handoff afterthought
