duke health technology solutions

i lead the automation & container platforms function for duke health technology solutions — a multidisciplinary engineering organization spanning site reliability and software development. we own enterprise platforms that help application teams build, deploy, automate, secure, and operate modern workloads in a regulated healthcare environment.

scope

team span
engineering management across site reliability engineering and software-development disciplines — coaching, performance, and career growth with technical credibility
platform portfolio
openshift, aks, ansible automation platform, gitlab, gitops, developer hub / backstage, observability, and container security — treated as products, not one-off tooling
ownership model
platform vs application ownership: we provide secure, documented, reusable platforms and paved roads; application teams own configuring and operating their workloads
operating context
enterprise healthcare platforms where availability, change discipline, customer impact, and clear communication matter as much as the technology

selected outcomes

  • moving shared platforms toward stronger product and sre operating models — slos, monitoring, lifecycle, runbooks, and customer communication as first-class work
  • clearer boundaries between platform and application ownership so teams ship faster without inventing infrastructure per workload
  • reliability and lifecycle maturity across kubernetes estates — upgrade planning, certificate and dependency hygiene, incident and problem learning
  • developer enablement path: documentation, developer hub patterns, and self-service so platforms are consumable without ticket-driven heroics
  • hybrid-cloud and emerging ai/gpu platform requirements framed as portfolio capabilities with explicit tradeoffs, not side projects

highlights

  • platform strategy and service ownership across kubernetes, automation, and developer experience
  • vendor and stakeholder management for enterprise platform roadmaps and lifecycle
  • incident and problem management with customer communication — not just tooling
  • architecture standards, security/governance integration, and customer onboarding documentation
